I've been hearing a lot about Kefir and I see it all the time at the grocery store and in people's carts. I had a sample of it once and it was pretty good. However, when I went and looked at the ingredients and nutrition label, I noticed that it had a lot of sugar in it, so I put it back and never really gave it another thought.
It wasn't until my Mom called me to tell me about this program she watched with Dr. Axe about fixing your leaky gut, that I thought about doing my own research on this supposedly amazing probiotic substance.
Kefir is a fermented dairy product similar to yogurt but is a thinner more drinkable consistency. It has a slightly sour taste but boasts amazing gut healing properties due to it's fermentation.
The Suggested Health Benefits of Kefir
1. It is a very potent source of probiotic. It has between 10-34 types of probiotics, whereas yogurt typically has between 2-7 types of probiotics
2. It is high in minerals like calcium, magnesium, B12, B2, folate and phosphorus
3. It's anti-bacterial
4. It is easy to digest and helps with symptoms of irritable bowel syndrome
5. It is low in lactose which makes it a good option for those who are lactose intolerant
6. It strengthens bones and helps prevent osteoporosis
7. It boosts the immune system and helps with allergies
This powerhouse of a probiotic is definitely worth a shot. I'm sure that there are lower sugar options out there which would make this a much more appealing option.
